Psychotherapeutic support plays a critical role in supporting the emotional development and well being of our students. Two senior level Marriage and Family Therapy interns, under the supervision of a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, work with classroom teachers to develop proactive behavioral support plans for all students. These plans provide consistency to behavioral interventions, identify appropriate environmental supports, and guide the teaching of self-regulatory strategies to our students. Topic-specific social groups are formed throughout the year to address such issues as peer relationships, hygiene, the vocabulary of emotions, and frustration tolerance. Some students receive individual therapy focusing on relationship issues, social stories, and behavior at home, school, and in the community. Oak Hill therapists link with the community of professionals working with our students outside the school, and continue consultation with our founding clinical psychologist, Barbara Kalmanson PhD.
